-3x + 4y = 42
--------------add
5x = 10
x = 2

-3x + 4y = 42
-3(2) + 4y = 42
-6 + 4y = 42
4y = 42 + 6
4y = 48
y = 12

check..
8x - 4y = -32
8(2) - 4(12) = -32
16 - 48 = -32
-32 = -32 (correct)

x = 2 and y = 12
