Can someone just explain and work with me please? I don't want answers
3x^2 -10x + 5 = 0 -- this cannot be factored do you understand why ?
A quadratic equation can only be factored if b^2 - 4ac is a perfect square and greater then 0. Which this equation is not. Quadratic formula for Ax^2 + Bx + C = 0 so in the quadratic equation 3x^2 - 10x + 5 = 0, A = 3, B = -10 and C = 5 Here is the quadratic formula : x = (-b (+ - ) sq rt b^2 - 4ac) / 2a now we just sub our stuff into the formula you with me so far ?
we will sub now...(a = 3, b = -10, and c = 5) x = (-b (+ - ) sq rt b^2 - 4ac) / 2a x = (-(-10) +- sq rt -10^2 - 4(3)(5)) / 2(3) x = (10 +- sq rt 100 - 60) / 6 x = (10 +- sq rt 40) / 6 x = (10 +- 2 sq rt 10) / 6 x = (5 +- sq rt 10)/3 x = (5 + sq rt 10)/3 and x = (5 - sq rt 10)/3 or if you want the real number, x = 2.721 and x = 0.613
