OpenStudy (fionacndg):

A road surrounds the perimeter of the park shown below. The park has two bike paths that bisect each other to form an “X.” What is the length of the road in miles? Who ever answers first will get a medal!

OpenStudy (ranga):

The road is along the perimeter of the park. The perimeter = 16 + 12 + 16 + 12 = 56 miles.

OpenStudy (fionacndg):

yes, i have the perimeter but isn't it asking for the "X" road

OpenStudy (ranga):

I think they just gave you that extra information to throw you off. They say: "A road surrounds the perimeter of the park" .... "What is the length of the road in miles?" If they wanted the length of the bike paths they would have asked: "What is the length of the bike paths?"

OpenStudy (fionacndg):

ohhhh okay thanks!

OpenStudy (ranga):

You are welcome. Also, the information supplied is not sufficient to determine the length of the bike paths. The park is a parallelogram. You will need the angle or one of the diagonals to determine the length of X.

mr Ranga has given good solution.
