Well since x is completely arbitrary, you can just substitute some other thing in for x that's equally arbitrary, and to reduce confusion, we'll call the other variable something like, t. x=t+1 plug it in: 8(t+1)-12 8t+8-12 8t-4 And if you want, you can just call t as x again if that makes you happy. 8x-4. So there's one.
