Help @ranga

OpenStudy (ranga):

Factor the numerator and the denominator separately and see if any factor cancels out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok thank you.

OpenStudy (ranga):

From the numerator first factor out 2 and then factor the remaining quadratic.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ya, I got that far, but what are the restrictions? It's 2(x-3)/x+5 .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Please hurry!

OpenStudy (ranga):

After factoring we get: 2(x+7)(x-3) / { (x+7)(x+5) }. Before canceling out the (x+7) we have to say the function is undefined when the denominator is zero. So x cannot be -7 or -5. Then we can cancel common factor and say it simplifies to 2(x-3)/(x+5) but x cannot be -7 or -5.

Thank you.

OpenStudy (ranga):

you are welcome.
