[Part 1 (4 points)] Show all work in simplifying (2x^2+8x-42)/(x^2+12x+35) Be sure to list restrictions. [Part 2 (2 points)] Use complete sentences to explain your process.
Help @ranga
Factor the numerator and the denominator separately and see if any factor cancels out.
Ok thank you.
From the numerator first factor out 2 and then factor the remaining quadratic.
Ya, I got that far, but what are the restrictions? It's 2(x-3)/x+5 .
Please hurry!
After factoring we get: 2(x+7)(x-3) / { (x+7)(x+5) }. Before canceling out the (x+7) we have to say the function is undefined when the denominator is zero. So x cannot be -7 or -5. Then we can cancel common factor and say it simplifies to 2(x-3)/(x+5) but x cannot be -7 or -5.
Thank you.
you are welcome.
