Point A, located at (-8, 3), is the location of the storage closet and point C, located at (12, -4), is the director's office. Find point B, the location of the art supplies, if it is 2 over 5 the distance from point A to point C.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

..do you still need help with this?

OpenStudy (rorrihd):

Yes i do! :c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know the distance formula?

OpenStudy (rorrihd):

I was thinking about using the distance formula and multiply it by 2/5 but im not sure. Yes i do!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay c=\[\sqrt{(x2-x1)^2+(y2-y1)^2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait is point b the midpoint?

OpenStudy (rorrihd):

THis image came with the question. i think that will clear some stuff up.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you sure this si the right image?

OpenStudy (rorrihd):

Im positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm, the image makes no sense, and so i really cant answer this? Wheres point b? Im so sorry, but I dont get it

OpenStudy (rorrihd):

Well, it pretty much is asking us to find point b, which is 2/5 of the distance from point a to point c.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

..I have no clue, all i can think of is the distance formula, but becasue you dont know either x or y of point b its useless, and ur diagram doesnt even have point b on it...

OpenStudy (rorrihd):

Oh...Okay, thanks for trying then! c:
