X/2=7
14/2=7 x=14
x=14
If you had a car full of people and half of them walked out, and there were seven people, then you know if the other half walked out there would be fourteen people in the car to begin with, right?
@Kainui yes that's right
So see how I just said the number of people in the car is our unknown, X? And I said half of them walked out, and you can see them and counted 7. So to get 14 I just multiplied by 2 right? That's the power of math, it represents relationships. I could have said there was a box full of donuts and we had no idea how many were in the box. But then some fat kid says, "Hey I ate half of them." and it turned out the surveillance camera could only see the back of the box and not inside, but it saw him reach in seven times before shoving them in his greedy little mouth. So you can find out how many were in there to begin with, since, Half the total donuts is: (Donuts???)*1/2 And that number is 7, we saw the kid do it, so they're equal! Donuts *(1/2)=7 And so now if we want to find out how many were in the box to begin with, we just do the same thing to both sides, since anytime you have an equals sign, to keep things the same, you just do the same thing to both sides in a clever way. So to get rid of the 1/2 you can multiply that by 2 since 2*(1/2)=1. And to maintain the equals, do it on the other side.
