your friend hands you a graph. He says the graph either translate to x^3 or x^4. Explain to your friend how to tell if it is an even or odd function, and how to determine the amount the graph has been translated.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Look at negative values of x. If the function is odd (x^3), it will be negative for these negative x values. If even, it will be positive.

What about the last partt of the question about the traslations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like how do I determine the amount the graph has been translated.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Not that this was asked but the way to determine if an equation is cubic or quartic is how many times the slope changes from positive to negative to positive, etc. If 3, it is cubic. If 4 it is quartic.
