What number has the greatest absolute value? A) -17 B) -13 C) 15 D) 19 (I havent done absolute value in a LONG time so i forgot how to do this but wouldnt the answer be D because it is farthest away from the zero which makes it the greatest or am i wrong?)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|(-17)| = 17 |(-13)| = 13 |15| = 15 |19| = 19

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which one is the greatest?

OpenStudy (emmyma):

Absolute values can be written like this! |x|. So, -17's absolute value would be |-17|. -13 would be |-13|. 15 = |15| and 19 = |19|. If a negative number is put into absolute values, it becomes a positive number. Positive numbers stay positive. I think you would be able to answer this question now that I have explained it. Good luck! :) Make sure to give me a medal if this helped!

OpenStudy (emmyma):

So yes, D is the correct answer! Good job :-)
