Medal will be given. Steps to solve this Linear Equality.

Steps to solve 12 + x Less than equal to 2x - 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

._.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wat

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

\[12+x \le 2x-2\]We want to rearrange the inequality so that \(x\) appears by itself on one side of the inequality sign, with everything else on the other. I would suggest that perhaps subtracting \(x\) from both sides would be a good way to start.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

\[12+x\le2x-2\]\[12+x-x\le2x-2-x\]\[12\le x-2\]Now what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Subtract 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2*

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Add 2 to both sides, to get rid of the -2 on the side with the x

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

\[12+2\le x-2+2\]\[14 \le x\]

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

or subtract -2 from both sides would work, too, but that's probably more error-prone for most people

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why would you add 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh okay thanks alot.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

because \[-2 + 2 = 0\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay thank you @whpalmer4
