If I have to write an essay about the social development of Korea, what exactly can I talk about? In other words when they say the word "social" what exactly can I write about?

Well, before China invaded Japan they didn't have a writing system. So China influenced Japans writing system, and today Japanese people used chinese symbols and their own symbols in writing Japanese

漢字 this is japanese kanji, and the equivalent is かんじ this is japanese writing, they use both of these.

Japanese and Chinese share similar writing symbols like 雨 which both mean rain in both languges
