For want of a nail, the shoe was lost; For want of a shoe, the horse was lost; For want of a horse, the soldier was lost; For want of a soldier, the general was lost; For want of a general, the battle was lost; For want of a battle, the war was lost. How many legs were lost?

How many legs on a shoe? How many on a horse? how many on a soldier? ect. Then add them all up. That would be my guess.
