If a person invested half of her money at 8% and half at 6% and received $210.00 interest, find the total amount of money invested. I need to see this worked out please.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The first step is to define the amount of money as x. Since the money is equally divided, it is then possible to state .08(1/2)x+.06(1/2)x=210 where .08 and .06 are the percents in decimal form. From there, we simplify the constants by dividing them by 2, which comes out to be .04x+ .03x=210. Add the two terms together to get .07x=210. Finally, divid by .07 to get $3000 invested.
