Two solids, A and B, are located in the same family on the periodic table. A sample of each is placed in a beaker of HCL. Substance A produces few bubbles, while substance B bubbles vigorously. What do the bubbles indicate? (chemical reaction ?) where the substances are located in relation to one another on the periodic table and the activity series?( B is lower than A, and more reactive) The name of the family the substances could be in ? What substance will have a larger atomic radius? (B?) What substance will have a larger ionization energy?
The formation of bubbles suggests that at least one of the products of the reaction is a gas. A can possibly have a larger Atomic Radius than B. And B Will have a higher Ionization energy.
Still reviewing my notes to help you out on the other two I didnt answer.
Thank you so much! Can you explain how you got that the Atomic Radius would be A and the other B?
What you answered seem right to me. So now you're asking 3 and 5?
I need the answers to 2 and 3 still.
I thought you have 2
No I have 1,3,5.
Ok I am confused. You got the location one.
No I didn't.
Well Since clearly B has more bubbles it is closer to the noble gases in the periodic table making B the one with a higher ionization energy. Also Like A has less bubbles it means it is further away of the noble gases making it have a higher atomic radius than B.
...anyway, the one for name of family, what group will produce a gas when reacted with acid? Last one, electrons that are closer or further away from the nucleus will be easier to remove?
So @Diiz_iiz_ElviirahCx the family name would be Noble Gases?
I believe so I'm just not 100% sure.
Noble gases do not react unless forced to. Can you recall what releases hydrogen when reacted with acids?
wolfe8- Only those metals that are higher in the electromotive series than hydrogen react with acids to release hydrogen gas. Examples of metals that never undergo this reaction are copper, silver, and gold.
Right. Metals react with acids to release hydrogen. So you can name a group that has metals I believe.
there is the Alkali Metals, Alkaline Metals,Transition Metals.
Just choose one. It asks for a name it could be; meaning there are multiple :)
Well the transition metals are what mostly make up the periodic table.
