Given the figure as marked, find the value of x. 1 6 11 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since two angles are congruent, x+14 is the base of an isosceles triangle. Because of that, two legs 5x-10 and 3x+12 are congruent(means they are equal.) Good luck!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

agh im so confused atm :/

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

u notice the bottom two angles are the same right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yess

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

Do u know what an isosceles triangle is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yess

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

Because the two angles are equal, it is an isosceles triangle ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

So the two sides are the same length ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes okay

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

Almost there now - can u set up the equation for the two sides being the same length plz?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay gotcha

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

Got it? good job :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah lol thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 12 xD i hope that was correct

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

wait wait - write out ur equations here plz??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i did the who 180 -30-30 = 120;/ soo confused haha im trying though or did i have to do 5x-10=3x+12?

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

second eqn is the right one to use :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh okay here let me try then ill double check with u :)?

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

hurry - we dont have all night! JK - sure let me know what u find :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey now! lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 11 :D!!

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

Good job - dats the right answer :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay :) okay i have other ones kinda like it but theirs only one side of the triangle with an x value.. :/

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

Post it here or start a new post :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ill post it here :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Given the figure as marked, find the value of x. 5 9 20 22

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

Almost exactly the same thing - notice the two angles are the same so now the iso. triangle is lying sideway =p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha true but idk how id start the equation if its only 3x+5

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

What about the other side which is the same length?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 32?

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

Nope...write out the equation plz?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh wait i forgot i could do 3x+5=32 right??

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

yes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=9??!!

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

Yup :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Given the figure as marked, if HJ ≅ IJ, what is the measure of ∠I? 20° 40° 60° 80°

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

iso trangle so u should know what to do now...

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

I need to go very soon so plz write back quickly...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its okay u can go :) i appreciate ur help and patients i can try to finish it :)

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):

OK good luck! if u have trouble, just start a new post!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alrighty :D thank you once again!
