Why is it that this site is supposed to be for getting help with school, but like every other site people have turned it into a "match.com" kinda thing. -_-

Light flirting in chat is allowed. However, the CoC clearly states that, "Don't be offensive, inappropriate, or creepy!" and has the specific example of 'Sexual innuendo, or "hitting on people".' So any person who tries to get too close is taking a risk. To "eDate" you need to hit on people. But if you hit on someone that does not like it, they can report you. This means that all the people that want to use OS as a hookup site do so at their own risk.

I can't name names, we do not do that as mods, but I am sure if you ask around in chats you will find a few people that got suspended for things like this.

But seriously, any attempts to abuse OpenStudy as a dating service, flirting service, stalking service or any other romancing service that offends and threatens peoples' safety is strictly against our Code of Conduct. The mods take such misconduct extremely seriously for its potentially damaging online-world and real-world consequences for the target. Please please don't engage in such, and please please report it to us if you see it happen.

I am honestly so upset with people who get creepy and flirt over chat. Just yeserday someone asked me to be their girlfriend when he only JUST had said hello and called me cute. Not to mention very creepy things I've been told..

I would like to add: We have users of all ages here. It is our concern that the young users stay safe and away from such inappropriate exposure. So please report someone when he/she is going past the limits. It helps to make this a better place and suitable to all.

Absolutely report those. And ones in personal messages. Reported messages become available to the moderators, as opposed to just admins. We can and do take action on reported things.

And Sofía, with that pic I doubt you are either 9 or 27. With something more generic for an avatar you can reduce your exposure.

Thanks for bringing this up. Yup, this is the misuse of all the social elements on OpenStudy. Report the message which is irrelevant to the purpose of the site. Also, remind them of the Code of Conduct.

If they do not listen, moderators will look into it.

We try to report anything that has to do with off-site communication (i.e. we recently terminated Tiny Chat). It is completely out of our power and staff authority to prevent it fully, because people can try to chat with others or find "dates" through private means, such as PM or programs like Skype. If you find anything like that, make sure to report it and include the message. (especially if it was in the chats)

@e.mccormick ahh i see what you did there xDDD wow, I find this to be quite relatable to me to…its kinda annoying tho, makes me want to punch the person asking me out. I believe more people should know that they can report if they feel like being abused. Well said everyone :)

Oh, and a note to the rest: Be sure to report the right thing! Had some claims where a person reported something and in the report they said there was more to it... but they never reported the other stuff. The database is HUGE. The chats scroll by very fast. Finding things can be hard. But if you report it, it is much easier because it marks it for us.
