How did the Black Plague spread so rapidly?

well, basically it came from rats for the most part. so when cargo was shipped it brought them with them, flies bit the rats, then they bit people. it is also highly contagious. people who did not know they were infected would flea to "clean" towns, bringing the disease with them there. and, they had killed off most of the cats, believing they were spawns of the devil, so there was no one to hunt the rats other than Yorkshire Terriers, that only lived in certain parts of Europe
