I think it would be because since they also lived there they would become merchants and such.

The the Renaissance was known for its amazing places and stuff...So all of this helped Venice transform into a Renaissance for its combination of culture, religion, art, and other attributes.

I thinks its because so many people lived there and there were so much merchants that the artist and scholars could spread their arts there. I'm not really 100%
