The Benefits of Creative Writing
Creative writing is any writing that goes outside the bounds of normal professional, journalistic, academic, or technical forms of literature, typically identified by an emphasis on narrative craft, character development, and the use of literary tropes. Most people know that creative writing is taught in schools, however it is taught mostly as an entertaining or elective exercise. Creative writing deserves more attention and focus from parents and teachers because of the many benefits creative writing has. Many are unaware of the benefits creative writing offers and the helpful skills it assists to develop especially in small children.
Creative writing helps develop a vast amount of useful qualities in the writer. It expands important vocabulary and word skills along with comprehension and reading skills. Punctuation, word choice, word usage, spelling, and grammar are just a small amount of the areas the writer will receive expansion in when they practice writing creatively. Creative writing encourages the writer to exercise their creative minds and practice the use of their imaginations. This improves the writer’s ability to “think outside of the box,” broadening their thought processes, which can lead to success in many additional areas, such as analytical and problem solving skills.
Another benefit to creative writing is the pleasure of others. There are many ways that, once you have developed and flourished your creative writing skills, you can bless others with your work. There are countless ways that you can brighten someone’s day with your writing. You could schedule a day to read your writing to sick children in hospitals or spend a day sharing your work with someone who lives in a retirement home. The school newspaper might be another way you can let others see your work. The school newspaper, most of the time, is more than willing to publish the student’s work. One other way you could let others enjoy your work is to look into publishing your work as a book. If your genre of creative writing is poetry, or short stories, you could write often and make a collection to publish.
One other benefit creative writing offers is lasting impact. Writing is one of the very best things we can leave behind for future generations. If you spend time writing now, people from generations yet to come will be able to enjoy and learn from them. We use writings from earlier generations in our education. We learn and enjoy these writings. Think about if we didn’t have those writings at our disposal. Where would we be? The writings from earlier generations are very helpful and beneficial to us today. It is our responsibility to carry on the torch of writing and leave the future generations with the information, the stories, the legends, and all the writings that made our lives what they are.
As you can see, creative writing offers many benefits and develops many skills.

Allows for Self-Expression in Children

Children often have complicated feelings that they are not sure how to express. Writings an excellent form of therapy for anyone, and it can be greatly beneficial
