Need help interpreting this cartoon on trade barriers? My teacher keeps telling me its wrong.Im doing an online assignment on trade barriers and such, and this is what i had done. My teachers response was this. "Take a look at the two "Cupids" that are politicians in cupid gear... what is their role? What is the image then saying about free trade barriers being brought down? Does that mean both the people ("the US and Europe") are truly happy with the idea of bringing down the wall of barriers, or are the Cupids ("politicians") making them feel like they love the idea of it? I interpret this as the politicians playing "matchmaker" and creating a false love of the idea instead of both countries really wanting the free trade zone. " need help please.
one is the cartoon and the other image is what i had written.
Okay, so as I see it, Politicians are forcing America to "woo"/persuade the European Union to "open up" and begin trading system with America (because the European Union only trade with European countries such as Italy, Germany, France etc.). I think it has something to do with gaining power that could (as anti-federalists put it) "openly legalize genocide and would allow corporations to supersede countries’ sovereignty and legal framework." And Viktor Yanukovych (President of Ukraine. The woman in the picture is supposed to e representing Ukraine as Uncle Sam represents the U.S) also wants to make a trade pact. I don't know particularly why, but I'll look that up. So in other words, The picture represents a trade pact between the U.S and Ukraine to gain even greater political power.
