why does the enzyme act as a catalyst

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An enzyme has an impact of triggering the molecules and enables molecules to gain sufficient energy to react. Since the amount of energy required for a reaction to occur is reached, the reaction starts. So the enzymes' function helps to reduce the time needed. All the matabolic reactions in human body can be given as an example. If there wasn't enzyme activity, all of these processes would take huge amount of time while sustaining the energy.
