What is real numbers and not real numbers? What would 1/2 be classified as?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Also known as "imaginary numbers". An imaginary number does not exist, but can nevertheless be useful in certain applications. An imaginary number is any number that is the product of a real number and the square root of negative one (-1). The square root of -1 is the "unit" of the set of imaginary numbers, and is referred to as "i". As you know, negative numbers cannot have square roots, and so the square root of any negative number is "unreal", or "imaginary". As an example of an imaginary number, the square root of -4 is 2i. There are also "complex numbers", which are the sum of a real number and an imaginary number. For example 3 + 2i. Real numbers are natural numbers and whole, fraction, and decimal numbers. One-half is classified as a real number because it's natural. "Real and Unreal Numbers?" Yahoo! Answers. Yahoo!, n.d. Web. 16 Jan. 2014.
