Can someone double-check my work for this problem?? Which equation shows a vertical stretch of 2, a reflection over the x-axis, then a shift left 3 units and down 4 units? y= (-2/x+4)-3 y= (-2/x+3)-4 y= -[(2/x+4)-3] y= -[(2/x+3)-4]

I know the general form is y=(a/x-h)+k, I think the answer is D.

So i got D, but why is there a negative outside parenthesis. I mean isn't vertical stretch |a|>1, horizontal by h, and vertical by k??

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Yes D is correct. The negative only controls the direction the graph opens. So it has nothing to do with the stretch or the horizontal or vertical stretch.

Oh, got it thanks!
