Fair Tickets for 2 adults and 3 children cost $34. An adult ticket cost $2 more than a child ticket. what is the price of an adult ticket?

c = a - 2

now just sub a - 2 in for c in the 1st equation and solve for a, the adult ticket

2a + 3a - 6 = 34
2a + 3a = 34 + 6
5a = 40
a = 8

c = a - 2
c = 8 - 2
c = 6

2(8) + 3(6) = 34
16 + 18 = 34
34 = 34 (correct)

child's tickets cost $ 6.00
