Which electromagnetic wave is emitted from warm objects like fire?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

radio waves, microwaves, ultravoilet waves, infrared waves

OpenStudy (joemc):

Think about thermal vision (imaging) equipment. It can see the electromagnetic radiation emitted by warm objects. If you find the type of electromagnetic radiation those devices detect, you have your answer.

Here is a page that discusses thermal vision/imaging and has the information/answer you are looking for: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/gadgets/high-tech-gadgets/nightvision2.htm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is not radio waves

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it the infrared waves?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Fire is an ionized plasma. positive and negative ions moving very fast which result in electromagnetic waves.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^ and reasonably warm objects (like humans and other animals) emit in the IR part of the spectrum

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infrared_vision > The terms thermal vision and thermal imaging,[1][2] are also commonly used in this context since infrared emissions from a body are directly related to their temperature: hotter objects emit more energy in the infrared spectrum than colder ones.
