Do you believe that deterrence was the best strategy to prevent nuclear war? Why or why not? How did fears associated with the Cold War affect the lives of ordinary Americans?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this obviously an essay question right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok ill help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you fan me pleease

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The Cold War affected the lives of ordinary Americans because it made them afraid of a nuclear war with the Soviet Union, and sparked many of them to build Fallout Shelters in the back yards.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you! <3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and for the second part I believe that deterrence was the best strategy to prevent nuclear war because Its the only option the world has to prevent a full fledge nuclear war. Even the smallest threat of a possibilty, a country will detonate a nuclear weapon will prevent anybody from using it. If both countries have bombs, there are both threats to each other.

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

Nooooo deterrence is NOT the right way to do anything, EVER!!!

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

This is, of course, a personal question... but in my beliefs deterrence is not the way to go when avoiding nuclear war.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the question says do you "BELEIVE" so u can have your own opinion

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

Yeah obviously.

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

but its also 100% ILLOGICAL to use that strategy with anything.
