Hello OS users idk if you guys have seen this but i get some ads on openstudy that are very inappropriate like a female avatar's breast with a pink bra jumping up and down and another one taking off her pants. I think these type of ads are very inappropriate for users that are minors and extremely nasty.
this is the ad and i would like a request to take it off
IKR...you should message the moderators..let me tag some of them in here right now
i thought it was just me but it really is getting annoying
@Preetha
@chmvijay @e.mccormick
i really understand that this ad is suppose to help OS raise money in advertising but i think its kinda inappropriate for users that are minors and especially people that are under 13 that just come to see a related question from their studies
Same here!
those adds are nothing to do with this site i guess :) its related to ur internet connection :)
hmm really?
@chmvijay i do not agree with you, cuz im pretty sure OS can prevent these ads from showing on THEIR SITE!!!!
um @chmvijay no its not cause i asked everyone i know and they same the same and some are very against those type of things especially females
if they are due to this site we should try to avoid them :) but if its from ur connection u need to also clarify that :)
@Mister_Kid_Dynamite some are but others aren't and im pretty sure that this one isn't i dont like those type of things cause i find them nasty and disturbing and i know it not true what ur saying because my parents are against it and im 100% sure i have not been on those type of things
um ok, but common sense is telling me that an advertise cannot be seen in a site unless that site actually agrees to it!!!
ya google gives u that choice if its something with ur connection but this one doesn't
It is based on what you search for on Google, or the internet in general. So if you weren't searching....naughty things you wouldn't be seeing those ads.
and if my parents see that i will get a beaten and second they will want me off OS forever
@Taylor<3sRin do u see that ad?
I do not.
oh really how weird that ur the only user on OS that doesn't see it
Maybe because, I don't watch porn?
well @Taylor<3sRin im not going to fight but i swear to God, God kill me right now i have not been searching those nasty things
Download an add blocker if it bothers you that much, other than that, grow up and get over it.
i really dont see how i should grow up if my parents see me with that type of ad i will get punished and will not be able on OS ever again and im very sure that other user's parents are the same
Then download an ad blocker.
well @Taylor<3sRin i cant because this is a school computer and they dont want me to download anything not school related and also im pretty sure if new users sign up and see that ad they are going to leave OS thinking that OS isn't a educational site but a sexually and porn site
@Taylor<3sRin if u like the game then play it but other users can get introuble
Yeah, I think you are overreacting. @Vannessa18 What are you prattling about?
Downloading an ad-blocker is not a solution of this situation neither is (in any way) putting it on @reporter's browsing habits or internet connection. As most of the advertisements like this have already been banned, I think there should be a provision to allow users to report if any new one pops-up. Analogous to the report abuse option we get in the feeds.
@Taylor<3sRin no im not this site is a site for education not a porn site, its just like me going to public school and bringing a playboy magazine or a porn video, and i would get suspended or in trouble so...... OS is not different from a school
It is a solution for this user, if he is that worried about getting into a bad spot with his parents, then it would prove effective. @real_quick_question You must be new here.
itss almost like posting innapropriate pictures
i really dont know what u just said, so if a user is next to his parents signing up and see that what impression would OS give the parent ? idk why its so hard to say that we dont want that ad anymore on here
^^Totally agreed
Then said user should say "Sorry mom somebody was watching inappropriate things earlier on our computer, so this Ad popped up."
ok look when some one gets suspended for language or something it says it doesn't matter to the student but what the parent will not like that their child is learning language i dont know how this ad is any different i actually think its much worst than language
What I am saying here is that you are not the first person to post something like this. You are also no the first person to be told by MODS that it is due to your internet activity, even Preetha will tell you this.
omg @Taylor<3sRin get it through already everyone on here sees this and everyone isn't a perv
Have a nice day.
any ways im going to stop and ignore @Taylor<3sRin since mods are in here any ways i still agree this ad should be taken off
and the weirdest part is that even female users see this and they are 100% straight
so this is why i think that its a ad from OS ^
Sexuality has nothing to do with this.
At all.
@Taylor<3sRin Not every one log's from his personal computer.
yes but it proves that it only shows females and there are females that receive this type of ads and they dont even look at thoe type of things
It proves nothing, sexuality or being "straight" has nothing to do with this situation whatsoever.
any ways my school checks up on every student to see their history every week and i would get in big trouble if i was looking at these disturbing things
well @Taylor<3sRin like i said still i agree to take this ad of and also ignoring before this post get deleted from some stupid fight
This isn't a fight this is a discussion among users of the site, if you see this as fight then I apologize.
thank you but i totally disagree some user and parents will get mad at this and will drop OS ratings
I freaking hate those ads , they're just showing off and tryina make boys stare at them and girls feel embarrassed .. it's nasty and really pathetic
and @Rockiee do u search those type of things on ur free time?
@real_quick_question No , I just see them on my computer a lot of times.. and it bugs me a lot..
^ thank you another user that shows that she doesn't look at these nasty things but still receives these type of ads
I hate those ads. they r so nasty and their breast start floating around
Is that the scarlet blade game? yup i played it...no im not a pervert.
No one in my family that uses this computer watches or searches those kinds of things yet, only on this website, I see those ads. Cuz if it was cuz of searching, it would show up on other websites but it seems to be only showing up on here.
agreed ^
@undeadknight26 please no spamming
@undeadknight26 Maybe that explains why the ad is not yet banned.
along with other lewd ads
And also, these ads will start off small, and if we leave it be, the ads might spread across this website and turn into a website that people would use in inappropriate ways. Please prevent this from happening by taking it off completely. We have minors that come on here and we shouldn't be showing these minors on a school-related website.
just ignore the adds their just there to help make money wow massive lag
@Jordan7 I understand that they're doing it from money, but minors come on here for school-related things. We should keep this website for school purposes only. People are already using this for dating and other things that are not for school.
People that are in need of help for school are already leaving this site slowly because of the fact that people are using this site for dating.
hintts why i mand the community on google lol
made*
There's days I'm working on school, and people message me inappropriate questions, or state things that should be blocked. Honestly, this is why I don't like using this website much. I love how I can get help, but with people doing those inappropriate things should also be stopped. I understand I could block them, but sometimes they make more accounts just to reach me for inappropriate reasons.
As I understand it, the ads you see on OpenStudy are generated not by OpenStudy, but by an online ads service. The online ads service uses your past searches to figure out what you are most likely to be interested in - so if you're seeing partially clad ladies that is less a reflection on OpenStudy's interests and more a reflection on yours. Hmm. ;)
To expand on what @blues said, you can also hide ads, and that particular ad will never show up again. @real_quick_question , what exactly have you been searching? On second thought, I don't wanna know. ~~(> '_')>
@Compassionate If it was because of the searching, it would also show up on other websites, but these ads show up on only OS.
I thought that it was just me! I just joined and I have seen about three or four!
Yeah, people are saying its because of the searching but I doubt that because no one on this computer searches those kinds of things, and yet it still shows up.
Hi, Ads are a complicated things, folks, and are provided by Google. Administrators are well aware of the issue -- and are working on using more gentle ads. :)
Yup basically to sum it all up, it is based off of what you search, for example I was looking for some clothes I like and I started seeing ADS of that exact brand. I also looked up some custom jewelry sites and than I started seeing ADS from that, Its ALL based off of what any person searches on that computer. It is not the fault of aOpenStudy.
I haven't seen any of those ads either \(\color{green}{>inb4\ adblock}\) \(\color{green}{>totally\ right}\)
Do u use google chrome?
then download ad block
I have never seen one of those ads before on OS. xD Not that I am saying they don't exist, I just haven't seen them. Can the ads perhaps be the result of what is searched for by any one of the computers on a particular internet connection rather than by just one computer? Because, for example, I get ads related to Out Insurance, and I have never Googled them, although in all likelihood my parents have.
This could relate: http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/52ce361ae4b0c694af181147 Usually certain ads appear in relation to what you have been searching recently. or you could have accessed a site with potentially inappropriate content and the site finds out you didn't look through it thoroughly, so they try to capture your attention by sending you advertisements through websites that are similar to that site you accessed by mistake. Its google, not OS.
I don't see anything inappropriate so it's not an issue for me, I only get ads on cheap deals for movies. Understandable since I like researching through movies, so I get ads on movies. If you get ads on naked women then you were probably searching for bikinis or thongs.
The most simple solution for this is adblock.
oh really u guys know whats the weirdest part that after i posted this like a hour later i never saw it ever again so it was part of OS.
and people all do respect but how many times do i have to say this that more than 20 people i know that don't search does type of things and it come out anyways and if it was from our history of our searches it will all ways have a X to take it off or block it and these dont so its not a problem with us it OS. Idk how OS can have rules and they dont even follow it them selves, they are above the law and want everyone to follow rule of law while they dont which is totally unfair and will lead this site to crash.
@real_quick_question I wish this was just a "report your problem and wait for admin to respond" feed. With all that precede, I don't think we are still talking on the same subject. "...after i posted this like a hour later i never saw it ever again so it was part of OS..." If OS bans an advertisement you probably won't get it again (irrespective of your browsing history), although it may require hand picking them (I am not sure as I don't know the technical side of Google ads)
ok so what do u mean by "If OS bans an advertisement you probably won't get it again" cause if it was a problem with my side then OS wont be able to do anything
I "think" OS has some degree of autonomy over the ads that can be displayed by Google ads; in other words, it might be in a position to restrict some ads from appearing on the website (analogous to the concept of firewall). But unless Google categorizes it's ads (which it won't for obvious reasons) OS has to resort to removing them one by one. Although, I think Google will tend to discourage the above ^^ practice.
@real_quick_question try this -> tools-internet option-privacy-and block your cookies to high or medium high this will probably not show it !
@tanya123 The point is not how to avoid it at your own end (using ad-blocker is the best option in that case) but the reputation of OS and to quite an extent of its users too. Consider this situation - I suggest OS to someone (like a friend, parent, relative, teacher etc.) and they in turn show it to their ward. As I use Adblock, I have no idea about the contents of Google ads. Now if something inappropriate pops-up (due to whatever reasons) even my creditability would be at stake.
can you give the link where can I find ad blocker ? @LastDayWork
@tanya123 Are you using firefox or chrome?
I have chrome but I don't use it... I use internet
