A rolling ball will eventually stop rolling. Which describes one reason why this happens? the ball eventually loses it's energy? friction converts some energy into heat energy ? friction converts some energy into kinetic enregy ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

On a smooth horizontal surface, a small amount of friction or air resistance will being it to a stop. If the surface tilts uphill, it will stop and may turn around. We say kinetic energy has been lost.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"We say kinetic energy has been lost." thats kinda wrong .. we say kinetic energy has been STORED up as potential energy and RECOVERED during the backward motion. when it is converted to Heat.. then K.E is LOST.. cause it cannot be recovered

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Worthwhile distinction: stored as potential, lost as heat, though in both instances no longer KINETIC energy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No longer kinetic energy means kinetic energy is lost where as in this case its just STORED up and then RECOVERED.. (so lost is not appropriate word :P :P , but i know what you meant :D) Just that we need to be a lil careful with the words we choose
