Trivia - Photoelectric Effect If the photons/radiation is used to overcome the work function, why do we use a battery in the circuit? Or in other words, where does the work done by the battery goes ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Battery creates a constant electrical field which makes flow electrons from one side to the other. So an electrical current is generated at the circuit.

Answer it this way - Due to the presence of battery, chemical energy is converted into _____________

OpenStudy (anonymous):

heat energy... and also if the circuit includes an ampere meter, battery also works done on the ampere meter' coil. (analog ampere meter.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

work done by battery is converted to kinetic energy so light energy is used to overcome workfunction.. remaining light energy comes off as kinetic energy (so u do have a photocurrent EVEN WITHOUT a battery) and the chemical energy is used up to accelerate the charges and thereby FURTHER increasing the kinetic energy of the electrons
