1/x+1=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is this the equation?:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, technical difficulties. 1 divided by x + 1 = 2 is that it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If so... 1 / x + 1 = 2 - 1 -1 1 / x = 1 *1 *1 x = 1 I believe.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(1/2) is not 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(1/(x+1) =2 *(x+1) *(x+1) 1 = 2(x+1) 1 = 2x+2 -2 -2 -1 =2x divided be 2 on both sides x = (-1/2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now we check: (1/(-0.5+1) = (1/0.5) = 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@larryboxaplenty you are wrong. x cannot equal -1/2. Look: 1/-0.5 + 1 = 2 -2 + 1 = 2 -1 = 2 incorrect. remember that the equation the asker put did not have parenthesis at all.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now, if x = 1... 1/1 + 1 = 2 1 + 1 = 2 2 = 2

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

@Darry&Gator it's likely that the problem should have parentheses, and the asker just didn't realize how important they are

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Either way, he never replied, so his loss... but both answers are here.
