In Sparta they believed that Spartan women were especially better than women any where else in the world because "only Spartan women give birth to real men." Spartans had some serious egos. They were tough and they knew it. They believed that their girls should be involved in sports & made strong so that they could bare stronger children, specifically so they could literally make tougher men. This belief led to Spartan women openly getting allot more respect in their society than women in many other parts of the world at the time. Athenian women were confined to women's quarters n their own homes and taught skills such as embroidery.
Athens was known for its artisans, philosophers, politics, and art. They considered themselves to be highly intelligent, sophisticated, educated, and generally more civilized than others. Spartans thought the Athenians were soft. Sparta is still famous for its highly militarized society.
Women of Athens generally could not own property. Women of Sparta could.
