Will a generic battery work with a Lenovo laptop?

A properly made battery should work fine.  However, some manufacturers require specific monitoring circuits on the battery itself.  If the generic manufacturer does not do that, it will not work.  Also, lithium ion batteries do not do well if they are allowed to fully discharge.  If the replacement was sitting on a shelf for a year or more before being sold, that could be a serious issue.
