Which graph best matches each of the following stories? Write a story for the remaining graph. The 3 situations: 1. I had just left home when I realized I had forgotten my books, and so I went back to pick them up. 2. Things went fine until I had a flat tire. 3. I started out calmly but sped up when I realized I was going to be late. **graphs attached inside :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

graphs!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think situation 1 matches graph IV... does that look right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and I think situation 2 matches graph II :/ not too sure on this one though... what do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and for situation 3, i'm actually not too sure... so i'd have to narrow that down before i create one haha :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you think so far? :/

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

first 2 are good

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so you have graphs I and II left

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay :) wait do you mean I and III ? umm so you're speeding up... would that be graph III since it's moving upwards?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh right, my bad yeah I and III

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha okie :P

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes, its III since the slopes of the tangent lines start off shallow and then get steeper

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

speeding up means the slope of the distance-time graph must increase (you're moving away from home at a faster pace)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay awesome :) so that leaves graph I.... would this work as a story? since that would be slowing down right? I was running the mile at a good pace, but got tired and slowed down. does that work? :/

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

that's a good story anything where you start fast and then slow down

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okie :) awesome!! :D

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

or "I was driving fast on the highway. When I got into the city, I had to slow down"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay i see :) i like yours better haha :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!!! :)

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I thought you were in a car ? A cop got behind you, so you had to slow down

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Oh that's right, it has to be in a car

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh that's a good one too hahaha thank you :) oh it doesn't specify, but i guess it's better to use a car scenario just in case :) thanks!!! :D
