Staccato refers to playing or singing a melody

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Staccato refers to how the note is to be played or sung. With a staccato marking the note is played sharply and is not held for any amount of time.

Stacatto is a technique developed on the baroque period. If a note is marked as stacatto, it means that it must be played the most similar as possible to an harpsichord sound so I reccommend don't play or sing a stacatto note too sharply.

stacatto is kinda jumpy... for example on piano you make your fingers jump on the key. Think of beans that fall onto the ground, it jumps.. thats how your fingers should go. lift it up from the piano and thats stacatto.
