well the segment talks about literature. mainly the local colour and womens movement at seneca falls. i have to write two to three paragraphs in response to one of these:

PROMPT ONE
Choose one 19th century American poem or short story and one historical document.

Write to compare the ways in which each of these represents the changing popular idea of democracy from the time period in which it was written. Cite specific evidence from the literature to support your ideas.

PROMPT TWO
Choose one short story and one poem from the 19th century.

Write to compare the ways in which each of these may be considered representative of American culture during the time period in which it was written. Cite specific evidence from the literature to support your ideas.

Prompt one is asking you to choose a american poem or short story then pick a historical document. Then you need to compare the ways they are changing peoples idea of democracy in the time period it was written. and then just use specific details from the poem or short story and the historical document to prove what you compared.

Prompt 2 is asking you to pick a poem and a short story from the 19th century (the poem and the short story both need to be from the 19th century!!!) Then it is asking you to compare the ways in which each of these may be considered representative of American culture during the time that they were written then again use specific details from the short story and poem to prove what you said.

@starkiller1997 I believe you compare the two against each other because no where in the prompt does it talk about comparing it to society. You have to compare how they change societys idea of democracy.
