I don't understand how to multiply them... (a + 3)(a - 2)

you distribute/FOIL

so for this particular problem, you multiply a*a, then a*-2, then 3*a, then 3*-2, and then you add the products

you should have: a^2 - 2a + 3a - 6

then you combine the like terms -2a and 3a to get 1a, or just a

you should end up with a^2 + a - 6
