OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

AB in tangent to circle O at B. If AB=7 and AO=8.9, what is the radius?

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

hint : tangent and radius form 90 degrees

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

hint2 : right triangle

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Hi, Hint 3: @ganeshie8 just sniped me. :(

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

lol @Compassionate hint 4 : hints dont seem to be working :o

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

in that right triangle simply apply pythagorean theorem : AO^2 = AB^2 + OB^2 8.9^2 = 7^2 + r^2 see if u can solve r :)

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

I was going like 8.6^2-7^2 :/ but that equals out to 5.5

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Hint: B is perpendicular to your radius.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yes, and 5.5 is right
