Question about groups and representations for physics: does it make any sense saying that "SO2 is a representation of U1 carried by the vector space IR^2"? Could you please explain what this precisely mean? We define U1={exp(ix), where x belongs to IR} and SO2={matrices R belonging to GL(3,IR) with inverse equal to the transpose and det(R)=1} Thank you in advance! :)
