Help please check my answer? I will give a medal. Which of these sentences has problems with faulty references? A. He's thrilled that you came. B. The box office was closed, but hey were out of tickets anyway. C. We're thrilled that you came. D. Bob and Tom were at the rink, but he forgot the tickets. (D is my choice)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@SolomonZelman Can you help with this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks for looking at my question.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

what do you think faulty references mean? doesn't sentence B sound bad? The box office was CLOSED, but hey were out of tickets anyway. the last clause would be good if th office was open( then "but they were out of tickets..." I would say in B, even if the offfice was open, ...out of tickets anyway. Why is your choice D, to me D sounds like a good sentence.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes sentence B definitely does not sound correct.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

For D, they were at the rink, but they forgot their tickets.... sounds coherent.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand it now thanks so much for explaining it. I really appreciate it.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

faulty reference, GUYS, is something else. It's when pronoun doesn't agree with the antecedent. Antecedent- what the pronoun refers to. Pronoun (you know this) - She he they our him his I yours your ALL THAT. For example, I went to our store. our is plural and I is singular, there is a false reference.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok thanks.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

You Welcome, I studied antecedent (my work 2 weeks ahead) just now.
