Two sides of a triangle have lengths 6 and 17. Which expression describes the length of the third side? A. at least 11 and less than 23 B. at least 11 and at most 23 C. greater than 11 and at most 23 D. greater than 11 and less than 23

I would have to say D.

Thanks :) But why tho?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For any triangle, the sum of the lengths of any two sides has to be greater than the length of the third side. If we let x be the length of the third side, then we have x+6>17 and x+17>6 and 17+6>x. Solving those inequalities for x, we have x>11 and x>-11 and x<23. From x>11 and x<23, we know the answer is greater than 11 and less than 23. Help any or confuse you?
