Which line has an x-intercept of 4? 4x + y = 8 -4x + y = 8 2x+ 2y = -8 -2x + 2y = -8

OpenStudy (kainui):

What is an x-intercept? That's where the line hits the x-axis. Since it's hitting the x-axis itself, which is just a giant number line, that means we don't know what x is. But do we know what y is when we hit the x-axis with our line? Yes. Draw a picture and see if you can figure out what y should equal so that you can plug that value in and solve for x in the equation.

OpenStudy (kainui):

When I say draw a picture, I just mean this: |dw:1390345595015:dw| So what's the value of y when the line hits the x-axis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what is it?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Have you considered one of these? Solve for y to put them in Slope-Intercept Form and then read the y-intercept? Divide by 8 or -8 as given to put them into Intercept Form and read the y-intercept? Do it! You won't.
