solution of x2 - 7x = -5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/2 (7-sqrt(29))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would complete the square:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and 1/2 (7+sqrt(29))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or use quadratic formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's what I was using I got stuck on it either being x - 7 plus or minus the square root of 29 divided by two or negative 7 plus or minus the square root of 29 divided by two

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, do the quadratic formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would it be x minus or just negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x=\frac{ -b \pm \sqrt{b ^{2-4ac}} }{ 2a }=\frac{ 7\pm \sqrt{(-7)^{2}-4(1)(5)} }{ 2(1) }=\frac{ 7\pm \sqrt{29} }{ 2 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did that im just confused because its not in the multiple choice answers, Its either x-7 or -7

OpenStudy (triciaal):

If you copied the question correctly check the multiple choice again. The solution above (7 + or - sqrt 29) / 2 is correct for the question presented
