help with finding component of force ?!??!?!?!

OpenStudy (adunb8):

OpenStudy (adunb8):

i dont understand please!! step by step if possible =(

OpenStudy (adunb8):

problem 2.89

random231 (random231):

okay do u know how to resolve a vector into its components?

OpenStudy (adunb8):

do you mean to i j k?

random231 (random231):

um thats when the force is in vector form. i mean to say Fcos(theta) and Fsin(theta)

OpenStudy (adunb8):

i know how to do that but how do you find the theta then? and for F is it 385N?

random231 (random231):

u have to find sin(theta) and cos(theta). Draw an imaginary triangle taking the rope as hypoteneuse. then sin(theta)=height/hypoteneuse and co(theta)=base/hypoteneuse.

OpenStudy (adunb8):

let me see what i get.

OpenStudy (adunb8):

i got 350Nsin (theta) = Fy and 350Ncos(theta) = Fx

random231 (random231):

why 350? it shudda been 385

OpenStudy (adunb8):

oops i mean 385

OpenStudy (adunb8):

what do i do after that?

random231 (random231):

okay now construct an imaginary triangle using points ABD

OpenStudy (adunb8):

then what do i do?

random231 (random231):

find value sin(theta)=AD/DB and cos(theta)=AB/DB

random231 (random231):

multiply each with 385 and ull hav the two components of force

OpenStudy (adunb8):

let me see what i get and let you know.

random231 (random231):

ok

OpenStudy (adunb8):

im getting undefined.. ?? i did sin(theta) = 510/385

OpenStudy (adunb8):

then inverse to find the angle?

random231 (random231):

nono not 510

random231 (random231):

its rather a long calculation

OpenStudy (adunb8):

what?? how can you show me?

random231 (random231):

find the measure of the sides of triangle properly

OpenStudy (adunb8):

um i dont understanding ... sorry.. ?

random231 (random231):

i made some changes just open it?

random231 (random231):

random231 (random231):

this one open it

random231 (random231):

@adunb8

OpenStudy (adunb8):

yes i see it

OpenStudy (adunb8):

would it be sin (theta) = 320mm/510mm ?

OpenStudy (adunb8):

sin (theta) 320/385?

OpenStudy (adunb8):

im so confused....

random231 (random231):

AD = 602 mm

random231 (random231):

tell me @adunb8 are u permitted to use a calculator?

random231 (random231):

now BD= 769

random231 (random231):

now sin(theta)=AD/BD

OpenStudy (adunb8):

ok thank you i will let you know after
