what causes oceanic trenches

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An ocean trench is a narrow topographic depression that is found in the ocean. Trenches are formed when two tectonic plates come together and the densest sinks below the other plate. The deep line that is formed as a result is an oceanic trench and it could extend for hundred of kilometres.
