OpenStudy (mertsj):

Start out by checking the slope between each pair of points to make sure it is a constant.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Slope = (change in y)/(change in x)

OpenStudy (mertsj):

For number 1 that would be (12-18)/(10-15)=-6/-5=6/5 Therefore the slope is 6/5 Checking the second pair of points: (18-24)/(15-20)=-6/-5=6/5 So the slope is the same and it is a direct variation and since 6/5 = 1/2, the equation is y = 1.2x

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Find the slope like before.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The change in y is 24-8 = 16 The change in x is 32-16=16 16/16=1

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Now you do the second pair of points.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

What did you get when you did (8-6)/(16-8) ???

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Is that the same as the pair of points I did?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The change in y is 24-8 = 16 The change in x is 32-16=16 16/16=1

OpenStudy (mertsj):

What is the matter with you? Is .25 the same as 1?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Then why do you say yes they are the same?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So since the slope is not the same, it cannot be a direct variation.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

yw

OpenStudy (mertsj):

And if you thought it was D, why did you post this: So it would be B? @Mertsj
