OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

The area of sector AOB is 12.25pi. What is the exact area of the shaded region?

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

a) (12.25pi-49)cm^2 b) (12.25pi-24.5)cm^2 c) (12.25pi-49√2)cm^2 d) (12.25pi-24.5√2)cm^2

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Basically, you want to multiply it by 1/2. Treat it like the area of a triangle.

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Well, wait, area is already mutliplied by 1/2, so it'd be 1/3

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

So itd be (12.25pi-24.5) B?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

you subtract the area of the sector from the area of the triangle to get the shaded area

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Here, I found that on OpenStudy. Look at this example, and just plug in your own numbers. http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/50cc0872e4b0031882dbea7e

OpenStudy (compassionate):

@jim_thompson5910 , come here.

OpenStudy (compassionate):

After working it out myself, I want to say B is correct. However, I'm not an expert on this particular type of problem. That's why I tagged Jimmy, but he seems to be away.

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

okay! thanks for the help and example. maybe when he see's your tag, he'll come and clarify more

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Yeah, don't submit it until he comes :)
