This problem is asking me to find the first five terms of the sequence a_1=2 while a_n=3a_n-1 -1.. I understand now to solve these types of problems, but the a_n=3a_n-1 -1 is confusing because I'm not sure what to do with the a after the 3.. I put a pic below so it's easier to see.

the first term is 2 the second term is 3 times the first term minus 1 or 3*2 - 1 = 5 the third term is 3 times the second term minus 1 or 3*5 - 1 = 14 and so on
