OpenStudy Suggestion Box Trying to find out what kinda features you guys would like to see in the future. Or perhaps you would like to see some changes in current features. Just fill up the form if you have great idea ;) https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1gbJyuidaelKd6L9uwX68yWGdF5sSUKGGPSIW1EFH7To/viewform This is the list of ideas that have been submitted: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aipa7vnafVHHdF9ieTBXMXRYZW9ZdE9CUExtdUpHeEE&usp=sharing
I submitted two suggestions at http://openstudyfeedback.uservoice.com - http://openstudyfeedback.uservoice.com/forums/95895-customer-feedback/suggestions/5363222-allow-users-to-know-how-many-people-viewed-their-q - http://openstudyfeedback.uservoice.com/forums/95895-customer-feedback/suggestions/5363278-allow-encourage-pursuade-users-to-precisely-state- Should I re-submit them at https://docs.google.com/
Not necessary, already noted your ideas :) Didn't know people still used that usevoice page btw :O It's not monitored by the admins anymore.
Ok, I still get the feedback link on left side. So I though it was active :)
My OpenStudy Suggestion is that suggestions are posted in the Feedback group, where they are visible and available for discussion to all users, rather than in a Google Docs sheet that only a couple people can see.
@blues Tried that, didn't work. Somehow every post which involes many people turns into a big fight... This way works so much better. Anyway I just made this form to see what most users would wanna see changed on OS. Since they're working on updates at the moment, perhaps it's a good idea to check on that.
I think OpenStudy should fix the problems it has at hand now before taking any more suggestions, they have promised many new features this past year and there has not been even 1 :/
I wont agree with this ^^ I think keeping record of ideas as they come to you is a good idea even if you don't have time to browse through them.
The development team is currently working on fixing the already existing problems on the site. Many of the ideas and suggestsions that already have been submitted are about how to fix some of the current issues. An example: - Chat limit of 10-15 messages per minute to prevent spamming. These kinda suggestions are valuable for fixing a major problem in the chat: spamming.
but then there's the issue of the really long messages like 111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 those take a hot little minute to type.
hmm, good point. max 140 characters? like Twitter does.
Ehh... sometimes long replies are needed too... 140 characters isn't much.
for a chat? well then 200. this obviously doesn't apply to the question area
I know you're talking about the chat :p maybe we could just filter out a repitition of letters or something
Why can't we have two set of rules - one for defaulters and other for saints ??
What we desperately need is to only be able to type a message every 3 seconds~ Uh, spam guys?
In the chat, I mean.
My only suggestion is to raise the report count needed for a community ban.
Added the response list so the ideas can be discussed.
Awesome, I think community bans are way to abused at the moment.
^ made a suggestion about that.
There should be no max for this! You'd have to be typing explanations over the course of over a million boxes instead of one.
I think you should have a report button when you scroll over someone's name. When you click on it you should have a check box of things that you can choose from that you did
Also I think you should have a category where it is just chatting. That would be awesome!
@thomaster Please provide a provision to cite other suggestions while making a new one. (Like a lawyer B-)
I agree with you @blues! And hey, welcome back! :D
I suggested some stuff regarding design.
And bug fixes :3
@thomaster UGH! "*insert random unintelligent joke here*" A MOD ENCOURAGING SPAM!!! BAH HUMBUG
@dumbsearch2 At least the spam will be contained :P
Haha
My suggestions: Revamp of design, being more typography oriented. Possibly looking more like simplistic sites like http://medium.com/ and using fonts like Merriweather for the body of text and Helvetica Neue for the rest, looking like designs like http://dribbble.com/shots/1390237-Sounds/attachments/201003 or http://dribbble.com/shots/1283529-The-Pony-Express-Mail?list=users except in a Q&A design We need a character limit and (for chat and for questions and answers) an autowarn and autosuspend option for those who use too much profanity, and a better profanity filter which looks for variations like f!!!k And of course, an app.
Also, whats OpenStudy's hosting? Is it Amazon EC2?
A complete change in design isn't necessary at the moment I think (and it would be a pain for the dev team to rewrite everything). I already suggested a change in the profany filter which changes words to *#$^%#@ instead of fixed words, that way banned words can't be traced back to the original word. Character limit is only needed in the chat. Not at all in the question or message area. Also a chat frequency limit (15-20 messages per minute?) and an automatic warn and suspension feature for users that use too many banned words. The app is still in development, though they showed us the designs a long time ago, don't know in what stage that project is currently. Don't know if it's still amazon EC2, they changed the servers a while back which decreased the downtime frequency dramatically (yay).
So what if you already suggested a change in the profanity filter? These are just my suggestions. Yes, no UI revamp yet. So for now its just for refining the service. These are more bug fixes and UX improvements. Anyhow, check this out. I know its a bit drastic, but its just an idea. http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/52e6afb7e4b096fa405abcb4
Also, for an app, a design like http://jelly.co/ or http://dribbble.com/shots/1391270-iOS-app-sneakpeek?list=users or http://dribbble.com/shots/1392299-Dog-App-Updates would be awesome. (love those bottom nav bars on the last two)
more site decorations XD Liven things up a bit ya know?
Is there an App yet or are they still making it?
still making it.
Will the app be for Android phones as well?
There needs to be a way to cut down mass tagging. People should only be able to tag three people in a single post. Is there any way to make this happen? This is my original post if anybody wants to look at it. Thanks to kag for the idea of putting this here in the suggestion box. http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/52e96a9ae4b0c5eaaf28e184
Any comments on the subscription program yet?
Please extend the CoC to include a bunch of Q/A protocols like - -Please close your question once your are satisfied with the answer. -If you are not satisfied, mention you query at the last post (of your question).
Tell weirdos to stay off, expecially pedo people >.<
That ^^ will require a precise definition of "weirdos" & "pedo" :P
@thomaster For Ambi recommendations..please allow us to vote for them..instead of posting the same name over and over again..
Community chat....
How about having our smartscores do something besides look pretty among our profile? Like have them allow you to do certain things as you level up your score, ex. When you get to level 30 you can post two questions at once or something, idk. :/
I like that idea. @Objection I hate when I need help with two questions, and it might take me 30 minutes to get help on one. Posting two questions would really help.
what if cows moaned when you milked them
I'm sure they do in the inside.
hmm i am trying to make a suggestion on the music section. and am sent here. BUt this is just a joke thread ful of wise guys it seems :). OK i'll take the hint i'll stop trying to change things.
must you act like you're 5? Holy crap. You'd think that you'd have enough sense to not give people the impression that you're incapable of rational thought. Come on, timo. You're smarter than this.
Thanks I just filled out the form.
Alot of these issues dont get noticed or fixxed......nevermind, im not getting into this stuff
The suggesstion box is a shame, waste, and like is no way active to help....
Alot of these issues don't get noticed of fixed, because they don't keep a list of things that need to be fixed (at least not a public list). Which is exactly what I'm trying to do here. The many different suggestion posts in the feedback section eventually get lost. So I'm creating a public list of suggestions. They (the tech team) will soon get started with fixing a lot of problems with the site. When something is fixed I'll cross it off the list, so it will kinda be an ongoing changelog.
Interesting thread, I will profile this so I can look at it later, and maybe get some ideas rolling :P
Didn't I already make one of these :P
This is a waste of time, and writing......Well maybe not, idk
Didn't get anywhere when I made it, but who knows....
Like why make this thread and not fix em? U guys just sit around and wait and wait....Then maybe do something to say you did it
You don't know the half of it....
I am going to stage a protest! and U will see that change is needed as it comes, not change is needed when we feel like fixing it
You know that they only have one developer atm, right? o.o
so it's gonna take a long time to fix all of the mentioned issues
@FlvsGirl xD just sit tight while I show you all that I did ;)
@poopsiedoodle Do you not remember my 5 point plan?
it takes no time to fix dumb rules. Just a decree from the all powerful ones you cant dissagreee with.
Nope, JA1. Timo, what are you even talking about? Geez. Just because you don't like the rules doesn't mean you have to bring that up in every post ever, especially when it's incredibly irrelevant.
xD wtf man that was like the biggest OS thread ever
link me
I'm trying to find it D: I'll find it sooner or later xD
OMG IS IT GONE :O
IMPOSSIBRU!!!
what ever you say Poopsie. Just becareful not to break your arm patting yourself on the back :)
I sense some hostility here
Again with the not making sense. Please, just stop.
Wow, this si better than comedy stand up and i am talking about the past ten, or so responces.....
Here is one that I found: http://openstudy.com/users/ja1#/updates/5210e719e4b0450ed75d19f4
I love this thread, poeple after people with cruel but funny hostility
Another OS moment: http://openstudy.com/users/ja1#/updates/51b35b05e4b05b167ed380f1 http://openstudy.com/users/ja1#/updates/51b74f24e4b05b167ed4893b http://openstudy.com/users/ja1#/updates/51cc84f2e4b011c79f633214 Three part series in which we can see the Hackathon Craze go down in flames....
Lets make a party out of this, who wants to play tell eachother what crap , or how fun their repsonces are and eat popcorn and watch an episode of Openstudy gone bad.....or comdedy
I have some good footage xD
@JA1 , well lets watch it.....I will get the popcorn
I gave up on "Revolutionizing" OS and am simply gonna wait here for change :)
Are you kidding me, it would take me ages to scrape up all those posts that are almost a year old xD
@poopsiedoodle @tester97 Join the party and llets ramble
The problem is OS is being run by Preetha, and only recently have we gotten a developer, but that's it, no more admins are helping.
I think that there should be a setting on tags for what subject. People can select subjects that they want to get tagged too, and when tagging somebody, that person should have to select the subject of the question tat is being asked. I also mean more specifically than math, it needs to be broken down into all sub-subjects of math. I hate being tagged to high level math questions. I hope you understand what I'm saying, I know it was long winded.
I know that the main functions of this site is for learning, but some people also like to have fun. Adding to my list of new subject ideas, I think that there should be a poll subject. People can ask each other all kinds of questions.
Just submitted two more suggestions :3
There needs to be a place for people to suggest subjects for OS. Subject Ideas: Law Sports General Life Sub-Subjects for Language Astronomy College and Career Psychology Photography Polls Philosophy was mentioned by shrutipande9
I'll update this list when I see other users asking about a subject that doesn't exist on OS. There shouldn't be any confusion, people should be able to find the right subject for a question quickly and easily.
As we all know, colors and fonts can make a huge difference in tutoring - especially for visual learners like me. I think there should be a font format tool (like the one in Microsoft Word) with options like color, font size, bold, italics, underlined, fonts, etc. Now, I know there is LaTeX, but writing in Latex can be very complicated to do and requires one to really learn all the codes for it. Let's face it - very few are going to take the time to do that. If fonts and colors were more easily available to the users, it could really help in tutoring classes like math and science. And, hey! Who doesn't like fonts and colors?
okay i would suggest to put a geography subject in openstudy
Submitted (:
