How do you know what strategy works best for solving systems of equations?

there are many methods for solving equations. Infact, solving equations was historically something that caught the attention of smartest.

1. substitution; just substitute variables, and turn the equation into one variable. find its value and find remaining variables.
a. multiply some equations by appropriate numbers if that shortens the solution.
2. Matrix method can also be used, but for this u need to know matrix algebra
3. draw the graph of the equations(if they are lines), the point where they meet is the solution.

BY elimination, u mean,?
say
x+3y=7,
and x-8y=12,
then, from 1st eq, u get , x=7-3y,
then eliminate x(replace it by its value from eq 1), by 7-3y.
I meant substitution, u said elimination; smae thing.
