when approximating distance traveled using the sum of area of rectangles, why exactly does the approximation improve when the width of the rectangles get smaller?

OpenStudy (ranga):

The height of the rectangle will be closer to the average height of the curve over a smaller interval than over a larger interval which will give a better approximation.

Right, that makes sense. Thank you.
